There are few topics that can have as profound effect on our lives as financial planning, yet we spend more time planning a vacation than planning our financial future. Of course, vacations are a lot more fun!
Much of what we see, hear and read about investments is not helpful. We are inundated with a constant stream of financial information putting most of us in a state of information overload. Just browse your local book store under Personal Finance or Investing and you will see shelves filled with a dizzying array of self-help books.
Part of my job is to filter out the “noise” so that you can spend time doing the things you enjoy doing and focus on the key issues that drive investment success. I strive to educate my clients on the things that matter most and make their lives a little easier. Still, it is your job to make the final decisions – and to do that – you need to be armed with useful information. Knowledge is power – so a person should keep as informed as possible about their financial affairs.
To that end, have you noticed that this web site has a Book Store tab to help you narrow your reading list? I can’t take credit for choosing these titles as they are recommended by the Garrett Planning Network website rather than hand picked by me. But I have read many of them and I am familiar with many more through other works by the same authors and presentations by them at professional conferences. These books are from some of the top financial writers in the country covering a wide range of financial perspectives.
The Garrett Planning Network has put together an exceptional reading list such as John Bogle’s seminal work “All About Mutual Funds” and the Benjamin Graham classic “The Intelligent Investor”. There are also several selections to address special financial planning situations such as self-help guides for widows. And “Just Give Me the Answer$: Expert Advisors Address Your Most Important Financial Questions - which I contributed to – would be a valuable addition to any bookshelf.
So, save yourself the high cost of gasoline and Starbucks coffee and browse this on-line book store while you enjoy coffee at your home or office.
